Flew through the book. It was very fast paced and easy to read, and the characters felt real with a lot of chemistry and tension. Also, as someone who has read a billion fantasy novels at this point, I appreciated how little fluff and filler scenes there were. The story set things up and got them done without talking about it over and over, or waiting for things to happen for 200 extra pages. Also we have a very concise cast of characters that are fleshed out, and there aren't a bunch of named characters that we see once and never again, which can get confusing to me. The first book doesn't overwhelm you with a ton of world building, but it does give you hints and clues that the world is a lot larger and more intricate than we are seeing. The magic system feels very druidic/Nordic but with some Asian inspiration as well. It was easy to understand while also being interesting to learn more about. This is a series I could finish in a few days if I had the time. It reminded me of Ella Enchanted because the main character is cursed to follow spoken orders, one of them being kill the prince. But they are definitely their own separate and unique stories. Exited to continue this story and the others. Happy Reading :D
