Tears of the Wolf (PAPERBACK)

I loved this book so much and I can’t wait for the rest of the series! I really enjoyed the extensive historical research the author did on the Viking/Anglo Saxon cultures which inspired her world. As someone with a deep fascination of the same periods I enjoyed the “historical authenticity” in a fantasy world.
I also loved the relationship between Brynn and Cenric. They deeply respect who the other person is and accepted each other exactly as they are. They also bend and grow to meet each other’s needs. They accept influence from each other. This was so beautifully shown when Cenric asked his neighbor for help when Brynn was in danger. It went against everything ingrained in Cenric to seem “weak” in needing help, but he was able to bend his pride and admit he needed help. Ultimately this lead to saving Cenric’s beloved and strengthened a previously poor relationship into the potential of a strong alliance.

I've barely started the book but it's already bringing me to tears.

I will admit that I hesitated to jump into this book, despite how much I loved the Daindreth's Assassin books. The primary reason was that earlier this month my husband and I had to give back the 3 month old twin boys we were fostering and had hoped to adopt. They are in a good place, but there have been a lot of complicated feelings and things we have had to grieve, so I worried that Brynn's circumstances would be triggering for me. After a few weeks of not being able to get absorbed in other books, though, I gave it a try and found that it was what I personally needed. I deeply relate to a lot of Brynn's feelings of loss right now, and it was weirdly comforting to process alongside her. I also really enjoyed the book and finished it more quickly than I would have liked! More please!!!

Now, I share my feeling about the story.

Thank you for this lecture, I have spent ten hours of beautiful reading, eager to devour the adventures of Brynn and Cenric. I really appreciate the characters's developements, and the construction of the relashionship(s). They're acting like reals and reasonnables humans being, not like pre-teenargers full of hormones, or brainless characters just created for the sex parts.

Landscapes's descriptions remind me my journey in Norway... And it's feels good to have acurate descriptions of this former stylish vikings daily life, a true capacity to engage policy's activities and generate a complicated history background with the differents factions/parties.

So, I'm really pleased by this reading, want to have the second book right now, and thank you Elisabeth for your writing skills !

Blew through this book on vacation in less than 48hrs! I love the characters and attention to setting and all the details. Telepathic doggos a bonus!
